Proposed Resolution

Cities With Peace Resolutions

Key Points

Welcome to the Fort Collins for Iraq Withdrawal coalition. We are a growing, broad-based group of local organizations and individuals  urging the Fort Collins City Council to pass a resolution calling for withdrawal of US military forces from Iraq. Many cities around the US have passed similar resolutions in a growing movement similar to the grassroots mobilization that eventually ended the Vietnam War. While our city council appropriately focuses on local issues and leaves most national issues to the federal government, it does periodically weigh in on transcendent issues that cry out for action. We feel this current war is one of those issues. To be silent in times of great moral crisis is not neutrality, it is passive acceptance of evil which makes us partly culpable. Our federal government is not listening to us. We need our closest representative body - our city council - to amplify our voices and speak on our behalf to help change our current disastrous course in Iraq.

If you would like to help, here is what you can do:

1) Get your church or community group to join our coalition and endorse the resolution. Contact Cheryl at 419-8944 or Joe at 472-5665.

2) Contact your city council representative

3) Attend the next public comment portion of a city council meeting. City Council meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month, with public comment from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Council chambers are at 300 W. LaPorte Ave, Fort Collins.

4) Write a letter to the editor

5) Volunteer to help build our coalition, whether your talent is writing, materials design, group outreach, or organizational skills.
